Description
31" (79 cm.) Bisque swivel head on kid-edged bisque shoulder plate, blue glass paperweight inset eyes with spiral threading and darker blue iris rims, dark eyeliner, painted dark curly lashes, mauve-blushed eye shadow, brush-stroked and feathered brows, accented eye corners, shaded nostrils, closed mouth with very full accented lips, separately applied pierced ears, brunette mohair wig over cork pate, French kid poupee body with gusset jointing at hips, knees and elbows, stitched and separated fingers. Condition: generally excellent, hands a bit darkened, body very sturdy. Marks: 12 (head and shoulder plate). Comments: Emile Jumeau, circa 1875, the gentle facial model evolved into the first period bebe model; the large size of this example and richly detailed original gown suggest its original purpose as exhibition model. Value Points: very fine quality of bisque and painting, splendid eyes, original body, original aqua silk/cashmere gown with embroidered and ruched detail.
