16" (41 cm.) Of heavy chromed metal frame with elaborate scrolling frame, porcelain seat frame with front finals and porcelain arms, and with original red leather seat, seat back, headrest and foot rest, the salesman sample of the barber shop chair is labeled "Manufactured by Theo A. Kochs Chicago", and is preserved in its original velvet lined black leather fitted traveling case. The chair has been preserved in near mint condition. American, the Theodore A. Koch firm of Chicago began about 1870 with a line of heavily carved wooden barber chairs. By 1920, their chairs had evolved into heavy chrome and porcelain with leather seats, and according to a catalog from distributor T. Noonan & Sons, Koch offered nine different models at that time. This extremely rare miniature version, with swivel seat and adjustable back, was designed for shows and exhibition marketing. Koch, circa 1920.
