Description
26" (66 cm.) Pressed bisque socket head with elongated face and very full cheeks and throat, large blue glass paperweight inset eyes, dark eyeliner, delicately painted lashes, brush-stroked and feathered brows, mauve-blushed eye shadow, accented eye corners, shaded nostrils, closed mouth with defined space between the shaded and outlined lips, impressed dimples at lip corners and chin, separately applied pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, French composition and wooden eight-loose-ball-jointed body with very plump limbs and hands. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: EJ/A 10 (head) Jumeau Medaille d'Or Paris (body). Comments: Emile Jumeau, circa 1879, his very rare model made for two or three years only and considered by him as the first signature bebe; it was advertised in the Parisian catalog of Au Coin de Roi as a "bebe perfectionnes" available in two sizes only (10 and 12). Value Points: the rarity of the bebe is rivaled by its exceptional beauty, with finest quality of bisque, delicate pale complexion and subtle blush, original body and body finish, fine early Jumeau dress and bonnet.
