15" (38 cm.) Bisque swivel head with flat-cut neck socket, on bisque shoulder plate, the head with deposed locking system allowing it to turn only side to side rather than completely revolve, plump cheeks and chin, cobalt blue glass enamel inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, feathered brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with outlined lips, un-pierced ears, brunette mohair wig over cork pate, kid body with gusset-jointing at hips, kid-over-wooden upper arms with dowel-jointing at elbows, bisque forearms with separately-sculpted fingers, kid-over-wooden construction at ball-jointed knees. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Simonne (blue stamp label on front torso). Comments: the doll was commissioned from Leontine Rohmer by the prestige Parisian doll shop of Simonne, circa 1860. Value Points: exceptionally beautiful poupee with perfectly-preserved body and flawless bisque, wearing lovely original silk costume with silk ribbons and coronet. The doll owns her original brass-studded canvas-covered trunk with maker's mark on the key escutcheon and original maker's label indicating the trunk was named "Le Merveilleuse". The trunk contains a bounty of costumes and accessories, including seven additional gowns, two jackets, six fancy bonnets, two bone-handled parasols, undergarments including hoop petticoat, purses, two pairs of shoes, blanket in leather strap, sewing reticule, woven knitting basket, two snoods, and more. The costumes and accessories are preserved in fine original state.
