Description
14" (36 cm.) x 14" closed. The wooden-framed shop with Art Nouveau shape of store front arches has lithographed paper cover and gilt lettering "Modiste". The two side wings hinge open to reveal the richly filled store shelves and floor, containing two chairs, eight decorated antique bonnets, various other hat forms awaiting decoration, hat boxes, maple wood miniature hat stands, ribbons, boxes of bonnet decorations, supplies, and trim. Standing in the store is an all-bisque doll with painted yellow stockings and bobbed hair, a large bow in her hair as she appears to contemplate her first bonnet. French, circa 1910, an outstanding and well-preserved shop in desirable diminutive size.
