15" (38 cm.) Bisque head with flanged neck depicting a black-spotted white dog with sculpted "fur" detail and floppy ears with black tips, very large brown glass sleep eyes with encircling grey eye shadow, black nose tip with pink painted nostrils and philtrum area, defined whisker tips, open mouth in beaming smile, spread-apart teeth, tongue, muslin torso and upper legs, composition jointed arms and lower legs. Condition: generally excellent, some surface paint flakes on limbs. Marks: Allie Dog Copyright by Georgene Averill Germany 1405 (head) 1405 (back of tongue). Comments: the amusing dog doll with delightful pun-name was designed by the American artist Georgene Averill and commissioned by Borgfeldt from German doll firms, circa 1925. Value Points: very rare-to-find appealing cheerful pup, likely made for only one or two seasons, with excellent sculpting and painting.
