Bisque socket head with very plump cheeks, large blue glass paperweight inset eyes, thick dark eyeliner, painted curly lashes, brushstroked and feathered brows, rose blushed eye shadow, accented eye corners, shaded nostrils, closed mouth with defined space between the accented lips, impressed dimples at philtrum and lip corners, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over Steiner pate, Steiner composition fully-jointed body with straight wrists with working "mama" crier. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: *22 (impressed) Au Defi 68 Rue Thiers 68 Marseille (red stamp on head and body) Medaille d'Or (stamp on body). Comments: Phenix Star model by Jules Steiner successors, circa 1895, the bebe was commissioned and costumed exclusively for the Au Defi doll boutique in Marseille. Value Points: very beautiful wide-eyed bebe has flawless bisque, original body and body finish, wearing superb original aqua silk dress, original matched undergarments, blue woven socks, tan leather shoes by Alart, hair bows, turquoise-glass bead necklace and earrings, and is preserved with original labeled box.
