Description
27" (69 cm.) Paper mache shoulderhead with plump rounded face, black sculpted hair with centerpart, sculpted curls framing the face and arranged short curls overall, painted turquoise eyes, painted upper lashes, single-stroke brows, closed mouth, muslin body with stitch-jointing at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees, porcelain hands. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Greiner's Patent Heads (label partially legible). Comments: Ludwig Greiner, Philadelphia, circa 1875, with original Lacman body patented March 24, 1874. Value Points: original finish is well preserved on the cardinal American doll, rarely found with Lacman body, and with wonderful early costume with soutache embroidery.
