Description
13" (33 cm.) h. 15" l. Standing upon a wooden platform with lithographed-paper cover is a bisque-headed clown with highly characterized sculpting, blue glass eyes, painted facial decorations in blue and red, bi-color wig, block torso and lower limbs. He is holding the tail of a fleece-covered paper mache donkey which stands alongside. When the handle is turned, merry musical tunes are heard, the clown turns the donkey's tail causing the donkey's head to bob up and down, which then causes the ringing of a brass bell which is attached to the donkey's head by a metal rod. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Germany, Zinner & Sohne, circa 1890. Value Points: absolutely delightful scene with several interlinking amusing actions, rare character face, original costumes on clown and donkey, and well-functioning music and motions.
