Description
20" (51 cm.) Standing upon a velvet-covered wooden base is a bisque-head jester with blue glass sleep eyes, mohair lashes, brush-stroked brows, open mouth, four porcelain teeth, pierced ears, blonde mohair fleecy wig, carton torso and legs, wire upper arms, bisque forearms, holding a paintbrush in one hand and a gaily decorated tambourine in the other. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 1078 Simon & Halbig S&H 6. Comments: Roullet et Decamps, circa 1895, when wound and lever released, music plays, and the jester turns his head side to side, blinks his eyes, and appears to dab at the tambourine with the paintbrush he holds in his hand. Value Points: well-functioning mechanism and music, with wonderfully painted facial decorations and vibrant silk jester costume.
