18" (46 cm.) Polychromed terra cotta head turned to the side in an exclamatory manner, sculpted deeply-incised short curly hair including forelock, enamel eyes, strong nose, furrowed brows, very thick and full sculpted moustache, painted stubble of beard, tow-wrapped posable armature body, carved wooden lower arms and legs, sculpted stockings in rare wrinkled manner, brown shoes, red buckles, original muslin and cotton costume and carrying copper pot. Excellent condition, restoration on nose. Neapolitan, mid-1700s, depicting village innkeeper with highly characterized concerned expression, unusual stockings.
