Description
6" (15 cm.) x 5 1/2" frames. 3"l. painting. Each is an oval painting on bone enclosed in brass frame and set in a deep set-back frame. The pair depict a young couple, the lady with three ringlet curls on each side of her forehead and a braided coronet at the crown, with gentle expression on the delicately blushed features, wearing blue velvet gown with draped bodice and pouf sleeves, signed Esther Crosson; and the gentleman with stern yet kindly features, thick brown hair with sideburns and brushed brows, and having shadow of beard, wearing black great coat with white cravat, signed Esther Crosson 1844 (or 1894). Excellent condition. Early 1800s, very fine detail of portraiture, rare to find as matched couple.
