18" (46 cm.) Pressed bisque socket head, very full cheeks, large oval-shaped blue glass enamel inset eyes with spiral threading and darker iris rims, thick dark eyeliner, painted dark curly lashes, mauve-blushed eye shadow, shaded nostrils, closed mouth with defined space between the shaded and outlined lips, impressed chin dimple, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, early French composition and wooden fully jointed body with straight wrists, lovely peach velvet and lace costume, undergarments, bonnet, stockings, leather shoes. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 3 (head) Magasin des Enfants Passage de L'Opera Paris (original paper label on body). Comments: Emile Jumeau, circa 1878, earliest period portrait bebe. Value Points: gorgeous bebe with very fine pale-complexioned bisque, subtle painting of complexion and blush, splendid eyes, fine early costume, original body and body finish.
