Description
32" (81 cm.) Each has firm vinyl head with highly-characterized features of hedgehog, in standing human pose, curly-cropped mohair wig, mohair "fur" torso, felt arms and over-sized feet, and wearing original costume. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Steiff, circa 1960, the figures depict "Mecki" and "Micki", German comic character figures sketched by Ferdinand Diehl in 1940, and made famous as "television commentators" in the German television magazine, Horzu during the 1950s. The lovable figures were licensed to Steiff in 1951, and were made in a number of different sizes; this particular example is likely an exhibition or commissioned set. Value Points: wonderfully-preserved condition of the comic characters, in very rare grand size.
