16" (41 cm.) Bisque socket head with deeply defined modeling on cheeks and around tiny brown glass sleep eyes, painted lashes, one-stroke brows, rounded tip nose, closed mouth with delicate hint of smile, impressed dimples at corners of mouth, blonde mohair wig, composition and wooden ball-jointed body. Condition: generally excellent, old body retouch. Marks: L A.W & Co (impressed script) 3. Comments: Adolf Wislizenus, circa 1911, the firm made an attempt to enter the art character market at this time, with model numbers such as 125 and other examples, such as this, with maker's signature only and no model number. Value Points: very rare doll with captivating innocent, yet joyful, expression, fine quality of bisque and painting, antique costume.
