15 1/2" (39 cm.) All-carved wood, socket head, deeply amber-tanned complexion, very angular features with sculpted eye sockets and strong nose, sculpted black hair in side-parted fashion and with comb mark details of carving, painted black/brown narrow eyes with black eyeliner, thick curved brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with full outlined lips, all-wooden spring-jointed body. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Schoenhut of Philadelphia, 1920s, the doll was a custom model from that firm utilizing their "Manikin" head with distinctive painting on the classic jointed body; according to Carol Corson in Schoenhut Dolls, only five examples are documented to exist (this present example is ex-Mary Merritt Doll Museum). Value Points: extremely rare doll in superb state of preservation with distinctive artistic painting, and wearing original multi-layered original Japanese costume.
