Description
17" (43 cm.) All cloth doll with firmly-pressed and oil-painted facial features, complexion and brown shaded hair with delicate tendrils of curls onto the forehead, shaded green eyes with brown and black upper eyeliner, white eyedots, tinted brows, closed mouth with downcast pouting lips, stitch-jointed arms, disc-jointed legs, wearing lace-edged shirt, black velvet suit, woolen knit socks and leather shoes. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 921799 Kathe Kruse (foot). Comments: Kathe Kruse, circa 1920, the model was inspired by (and is a near copy of) a 17th century bust by the Flemish sculptor, Francois Duquesnoy; the model was very popular in the early 1900s and inspired not only this Kathe Kruse model, but also K*R 115 with sculpted hair and Marseille's Fany. Value Points: fine original painting with especially fine detail of hair on the early character doll.
