Description
16" (41 cm.) x 11". A silk-covered box with raised lettering "Mercie" on the lid has ornamental brackets and clasps, and hinges open to a remarkable interior featuring rose satin draped curtains framing a mirror on the inside lid, and a fitted tray with eight niches containing a fitted bunting for small doll, woven basket, rose ribbon-tied laces and samplers, and a bevy of sewing tools and accessories including ribbons, buttons and buckles. There is a lower drawer in which is preserved a large canvas sampler and colorful yarns. Excellent condition, in original state of preservation. French, circa 1890, the luxury nature of the grand presentation indicates its creation for prestige Paris department store of the era.
