12" (30 cm.) A bisque-headed couple are posed in each others arms, in formal dance position, each with blue glass eyes, facial features, carton torso, original blonde mohair wig, paper mache legs and metal hands, silk costumes. The woman fits upon a metal cone "skirt" that contains mechanism, and is hidden by her silk skirt. When wound, the dolls twirl about, pause, reverse, repeat, and meanwhile the entire piece glides along on three wheeled-base, while music plays. Condition: mechanism functions well, restoration to woman's shoulderplate, costumes are replicas of original costumes (of which the frail remnants are included). Marks: A. Theroude Paris Brevete SGDG (brass plates on mechanism). Theroude, circa 1860. Sold as is.
