15" (38 cm.) Carved wooden head with gesso detailing of ringlet-curled hair, painted complexion, facial features, defined eye sockets with blue eyes, eyeliner, single-stroke brows, closed mouth with slight smile, all wooden body except pewter hands and painted boots, dowel jointing at hips, knees, shoulders, and elbows, right hand with uniquely curled fingers to hold object. Condition: very good, original finish with rubs at hair and nose. Comments: Joel Ellis, Vermont, circa 1875. Value Points: hard to find in this original state, with captivating facial expression, wearing early calico costume that is likely original.
