23" (58 cm.) Black-complexioned paper mache head with plump facial modeling, sculpted black textured hair with three defined ribbon loops, brown glass inset side-glancing eyes with dark eyeliner, thickly-modeled black brows, nicely shaped nose with broad nostrils, closed mouth with hint of smile, three incised laughter crinkles in each cheek, brown muslin torso, composition arms and legs, antique costume. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 1888. Comments: Leo Moss, early 1900s. The doll was known as "Pansy", according to oral tradition of the Moss family. Value Points: wonderful expression enhanced by impressed laughter crinkles and unusual modeled ribbon loops in hair.
