Description
18" (46 cm.) Bisque socket head, brown glass sleep eyes, mohair lashes, painted lashes, short feathered brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with impishly-smiling expression, accent line between the lips, impressed dimples, brunette mohair wig, composition and wooden ball-jointed body, nicely costumed. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Germany 1924 c. L.A. & S NY 50 973/3. Comments: portrait model of the Hollywood child film star, Baby Peggy, commissioned in Germany for Louis Amberg, circa 1924. The doll was originally gifted to the noted Hollywoodiana collector, Billie Nelson Tyrell by Baby Peggy in 1976, and after the death of the Tyrell the doll returned to the hands of Baby Peggy (note on back of doll head). Value Points: rarely found model with enchanting expression is from the private collection of Diana Serra Cary, known as "Baby Peggy".
