Description
8 1/2" (22 cm.) Polychromed terra cotta head with sculpted hair loosely brushed to back of head into coiled bun, enamel eyes, tow-wrapped posable armature body with wooden lower arms and legs, wearing well-detailed and accented folklore costume, balancing a basket of wheat on the back of a sculpted mule with original harness and blankets, arranged on original wooden base with ground cover. Excellent condition. Neapolitan, mid-1700s, felicitous arrangement enhanced by very fine minute detailing of costume and pose.
