Description
8" (20 cm.) Wax over paper mache head with black enamel eyes, painted brows, wooden block torso, paper mache lower limbs, arranged in a wooden cradle with three attached pull strings which, when pulled, cause the baby to cry mama, or lift arms, or raise to seated pose. Condition: good, original finish with minor craquelure, one hand missing. Comments: Germany, circa 1855, the doll was made in variations (see #122), including one example with original Au Nain Blue paper label suggesting the mechanical tauffling baby in cradle was made for the French market.
