14" (36 cm.) Bisque socket head with very high domed forehead and very expressive features, rich ebony-black complexion, brown glass inset eyes, black eyeliner, black painted lashes and brows, upturned nose, accented nostrils, closed mouth with very full coral-shaded lips, row of painted teeth, pierced ears, black fleecy wig over cork pate, Sonneberg ebony-black composition and wooden fully-jointed body, fine antique silk and purple velvet dress, cap, undergarments, shoes and socks. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: (partial French doll shop label on back torso "...Jouets...Pasage de L'Opera"). Comments: Sonneberg, circa 1885, mystery maker for the French market. Value Points: very rare doll with outstanding sculpting and flawless bisque, original body and body finish, beautiful exotic costume.
