20" (51 cm.) Bisque socket head, blue glass eyes, painted features, richly-painted eye decoration, rose-blushed eye shadow, accented nostrils, open mouth with slightly-parted lips, double row of tiny porcelain teeth, pierced ears, mohair auburn wig with long flowing curls, cork pate, French composition and wooden fully-jointed body with two-tune musical box inside the torso. The music box, eyes that open and close, and breathing panel at front torso all operate from keywind at the back torso. Condition: generally excellent, music and mechanisms function well. Marks: Brevete SGDG Bru Jne R Y. 8 M. (head) Bebe Bru (back torso). Comments: Bru, the Bebe Respirant was deposed in 1892 and offered in several variations, this example with movable eyes and music box was the most luxurious and is virtually never found today, and is wearing beautiful (frail) silk costume which may be original.
