15" (38 cm.) Pressed felt doll with center-seamed face,pronounced nose,black bead eyes,painted brows,nostril accents and mouth,stitched-on blue wool felt sailor cap,red mohair beard,jointing at shoulders,uniquely hinged legs,sewn-on blue wool felt sailor costume with flared "bell-bottoms" and black shoe tips. Condition: generally excellent,very fresh state overall,one small felt hole at inside left wrist. Comments: Steiff,early 20th century,the distinctively shaped body was shown and discussed with x-ray body images in the book Button in Ear by Jurgen and Marianne Cieslik,page 107. Value Points: very rare early Steiff doll in wonderfully preserved condition.
