26" (66 cm.) Bisque socket head with elongated facial modeling enhanced by very full cheeks, large blue glass paperweight inset eyes, thick dark eyeliner, painted curly lashes, mauve blushed eye shadow, brushstroked and feathered brows, accented eye corners, shaded nostrils, closed mouth with outlined shaded lips, separately-modeled pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, French composition and wooden eight-loose-ball-jointed body with straight wrists, wearing antique (frail) ivory ribbed silk dress with applique lace trim, undergarments, lace bonnet with silk ribbons, socks, leather shoes. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 12 (head) Jumeau Medaille d'Or Paris (body). Comments: Emile Jumeau, circa 1884, his bebe modeled by the celebrated Parisian sculptor, Carrier-Belleuse, known as "Bebe Triste" in reference to its wistful expression. Value Points: especially fine painting of complexion and features enhances the compelling wistful expression, original body and body finish.
