17" (43 cm.) Bisque socket head of adult lady with oval elongated face, dark blue glass inset eyes, painted lashes, brush-stroked brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with double row of teeth, brunette mohair wig, composition lady body with shapely torso and elongated limbs, feet shaped as high heels. Condition: JE Masson Lorraine No 0 A.L. & Co. Limoges. Comments: Lanternier, circa 1917, During the Renaissance of the French doll movement in the early 20th century, noted Parisian sculptors and artists were commissioned to create artistic doll models. These artists included Marque, Poulbot, Van Rozen and the sculptor of this present doll, Jules Edmond Masson (1871-1932) whose bronze sculptures of animals were highly praised. Value Points: distinctive portrait of lady, with artist impressed signature, is perfectly preserved, wearing her original folklore costume and coiffe.
