12" (30 cm.) Carved wooden socket head, painted black hair with cut-back hair at forehead, then combed into a chignon at the back held by gold combs, incised carving at the forehead and sunken eye hollows, tinted facial features, cloth body with wooden hands. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Chinese Door of Hope Mission, from the original 1910 group, described as depicting an aged woman. Value Points: very fine detail of carving, the woman wears original black silk short tunic over white underblouse, black silk skirt, purple pants, black silk slippers with embroidered trim, and two black silk head wraps.
