Description
27" (69 cm.) Bisque socket head, small blue glass paperweight inset eyes, dark eyeliner, delicately-painted lashes, rose blushed eye shadow, brush-stroked and feathered brows, shaded nostrils, closed mouth with accented lips, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, French composition and wooden fully-jointed body, nice antique costume including mohair coat. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Paris Bebe Tete Dep 12 (incised on head, and with artist checkmarks) Paris Bebe Depose (on torso, with Eiffel Tower symbol). Comments: Danel & Cie, circa 1890. Anatole Danel, foreman at the Jumeau firm, broke away from Jumeau and formed his own company, producing dolls whose remarkable similarity to those of Jumeau inspired a famous infringement lawsuit between the two. Danel & Cie lost, and closed its doors, and as a result few examples of his bebes can be found today. Value Points: rare model with lovely bisque and painting, beautiful original wig, original body and body finish.
