20" (51 cm.) All-wooden doll, solid domed shoulder head attached to the torso in a manner allowing the shoulders to pivot right and left as though the head is turning, oval-shaped face, well-defined ears, painted complexion and facial features, unusual down-cast eyes with heavy eyelids, fringe-painted upper lashes, aquiline nose, closed mouth, brunette hand-tied wig, shapely torso, articulated at shoulders, wrists, hips and knees. Condition: very good, original finish with some rubbing age wear, light touch-up on hands. Comments: Continental, late 1700s. Value Points: regal yet gentle demeanor is well rendered, rare head articulation, wearing early original costume including wonderful woven slippers.
