19" (48 cm.) l. 12"h. The wooden trunk with very high domed lid is covered with silk(worn) over linen base and with exceptional thickly embroidered silvered threads forming a crest at the center lid with fleur-de-lis motif. An English-language old paper label on the underside reads "Louis XIV [?] used for holding laces, vers 1650." The interior has an early paper with the ink notation "This baby linen of Prince Charles Edward Stuart is an heirloom from the Farquharson of Invercauld" and lists "7 shirts (2 plain, 2 with Alencon lace, and 2 with crowns in shoulder pieces, one with hanging sleeves, one other), 4 caps, 4 prs babie's mittens, 6 specimens of baby lace, 3 models of infants robes (doll's size)". Included in the trunk are various specimens of early needlework, including a silk piece to which are attached several of the tiny samples listed above, along with an ink paper note "Baby lace of Prince Charles The Pretender".
