Description
17" (43 cm.) x 16" base. 8"h. dolls. Arranged on a paper and velvet-covered platform are seven bisque head dolls with delightfully-painted clown performer faces and white caps, wooden block torso, hands and feet. Standing at the center behind the music stand is the band leader who holds a baton, and around him are six other band members, each holding a different instrument, including drum, accordion, flute, banjo, viola, and violin. When porcelain tipped handle is turned, a merry tune is heard and the players all vigorously play their instruments while the conductor leads. Condition: mechanism functions well, bisque is excellent, costumes are frail, some repairs to wooden base. Comments: Germany, Zinner & Sohne, circa 1890. Value Points: rare extravagant presentation with wonderful unique faces, charming actions, great music.
