18" (46 cm.) Solid domed paper mache socket head with highly characterized features, painted ochre complexion highlighted by colorful clown decorations, painted upper-glancing eyes, closed mouth with smiling expression and row of painted teeth, painted orange cap, five-piece paper mache body. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: French, circa 1900. Value Points: so rare to find in this fine original state, with delightful expression and whimsical costume having feathers and pom-poms on head and cotton costume with scenes of performing clowns
