Description
15" (38 cm.) Solid domed bisque head with alternate faces on front and back that can be revealed by turning the head; one head with painted squinting brown eyes, painted upper eyeliner, short feathered brows, furrowed temples, closed mouth as though crying; the other face with brown glass eyes, painted curly lashes, feathered brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth modeled as though open with sculpted tongue and two upper teeth; with brush-stroked painted baby hair and unusual sculpting of double-sided ears, composition baby body, antique costume. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 159 (painted eye face) 6 (glass eyed face). Comments: Hertel and Schwab, circa 1915, as a special commission for Kley and Hahn. Value Points: rare double-faced character with fine quality of production, original body and body finish.
