Description
11" (28 cm.) l. 11" h. Arranged upon a wooden platform with decorative paper covers are two bisque-headed children, one being a black-complexioned child standing behind a large parade drum on platform, and the other being a child with decorated clown face, seated on a wooden stool and holding a faux accordion. Each doll has well-sculpted features with artistic painting, wooden block torso and wooden lower limbs, wearing (frail) original silk costume. When wound, the black child claps the cymbals atop the drum, and the clown child "plays" the accordion, while music gaily plays. Condition: generally excellent, music and motion function well. Comments: attributed to Zinner & Sohne, circa 1890. Value Points: delightful vignette with amusing actions, original state of preservation, rare bisque character faces.
