Description
7" (18 cm.) h. The intaglio-etched translucent porcelain panel depicts an angelic scene and is presented in original brass frame with pedestal base having candle prongs at the back to provide the back lighting needed to view the scene. The panel is marked "E (F?) PM 830". Excellent condition. The artistic medium, an image carved in warm wax on a glass plate, then backlit and carved, first appeared in the early 1800s. Miniature versions, such as this, are extremely rare to find, especially in their original presentation stand. French, circa 1869.
