Description
15" (38 cm.) Solid domed bisque swivel head on bisque shoulderplate with two sculpted facial models, one on either side of the head, depicting awake and asleep face; the sleeping face with modeled closed eyelids, rose eye shadow, painted lower lashes and delicate brows, closed mouth with center accent line; and the awake face with cobalt blue glass eyes, painted lashes, dark eyeliner, feathered brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with center accent line. The pierced ears are double-sided and the wig is designed to accommodate either face, all-wooden poupee body with ball-swivel at waist, dowel-articulation at shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees and ankles, lovely ivory satin gown and elaborate coiffe. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Leon Casimir Bru, his "Poupee Surprise" introduced in 1867 and made for one or two years only; another example of this doll features laughing/frowning faces. Value Points: very rare model with superb quality of bisque and painting, and original Bru body with wooden articulated arms.
