Description
28". Each has a hand-pressed earthenware head with painted facial features including wide upper-glancing eyes, long lashes, blushed cheeks, closed mouth with wide beaming smile with teeth, and impressed cheek dimples. The larger has sculpted curly locks, and is mounted on a German kid doll body with composition arms; the smaller has a blonde curly human hair wig and is mounted on a German kid doll body with bisque forearms. The dolls were gifted to Shirley, handmade by an enthusiastic fan, about 1935, depicting Shirley in costume from "The Littlest Rebel", and Shirley in bridal costume from the "When I Grow Up" scene of "Curly Top". The maker or donor is unknown, but may be the dark-haired girl shown in the photograph with Shirley and the dolls; and both photographs are included with the dolls.
