Description
21" (53 cm.) Standing upon a velvet-covered base is a bisque-headed boy with amber brown glass paperweight inset eyes, dark eyeliner, lushly-painted long lashes, brushstroked feathered brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with shaded and outlined lips, pierced ears, brunette mohair wig over cork pate, carton torso and legs, wire upper arms, composition lower arms. When wound, the little boy turns his head side to side, and then nods, as he extends his right arm, holding a baby bottle, toward his baby pig which is being held in his left arm; periodically the baby pig flaps his ears up and down in delight, and music plays. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Depose Tete Jumeau. Comments: Roullet et Decamps, circa 1890, the model appeared in the firm's early catalog as number 295, titled "Paysan et son Couchon" (peasant and his piglet). Value Points: the delightful automaton has original silk costume and accessories, especially beautiful face with splendid eyes, music and motion function well.
