17" (43 cm.) Porcelain pink-tinted shoulder head with very plump rounded face, large blue glass enamel inset eyes enhanced by dark eyeliner, painted lashes, arched brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with primly-set lips, unpierced ears, brunette mohair wig in original braided chignons at the back of her head, kid poupee body with gusset-jointing at hips and knees, kid-over-wooden upper arms, porcelain arms to above the elbows. Condition: generally excellent, especially sturdy body. Comments: Claude Blampoix, circa 1857, the doll exhibits a beautiful example of the glass enamel eyes whose use he deposed in 1855 court filings noting "which has never been done thus far". Value Points: especially beautiful early poupee with original original body and porcelain arms, wonderful multi-layered costume including brown velvet gown and bonnet, red woolen jacket, undergarments (one petticoat with ink script "M.S.Davenport No.5" in tiny letters), and leather boots.
