Description
17" (43 cm.) Amber-tinted bisque swivel head on amber-tinted bisque shoulder plate, small brown glass inset eyes with dark eyeliner, painted lashes, black feathered brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with pale outlined lips, unpierced ears, very firmly-stuffed kid poupee body with shapely torso, gusset-jointing at hips and knees, amber-tinted bisque arms to above the elbows. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: F. 4 G. Comments: Gaultier, circa 1865, few Gaultier models from this era bear the maker's initials, this and the uniqueness of the Asian model indicate a special commission doll, probably for the 1867 Paris International Exposition. Value Points: very rare doll with gorgeous complexion and painting, rare signature, very sturdy original body whose rare bisque arms have matching amber tinted complexion, and outstanding original Asian costume including attached headdress and silk shoes for bound feet.
