Description
14" (36 cm.) x 12". Bisque head with very plump cheeks and chin, cobalt blue glass enamel inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, lightly-feathered brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with upturned lip corners in gentle smile, the doll, costumed as Carmelite nun, is posed kneeling before a shelved arrangement of flowers and candles, and the surrounding walls are covered with original papers, miniature scenes, and hand-lettered inspirational phrases. Excellent condition. French, circa 1860, the poignant scene is centered by a bisque-headed nun with especially expressive face.
