Description
4 1/2" (11 cm.) h. sewing bird. 2"l. necessaire. The cast metal bird with spread wings and velvet pincushion body is posed upon a metal frame which attaches to a table top and is designed to hold fabric while being embroidered; the wings form a clip which, when squeezed, allows the mouth to open and close. Along with a mother-of-pearl egg-shaped necessaire with silver edging and rose silk lining, fitted with miniature silver scissors, thimble, awl and needle case. Excellent condition. Mid-1800s.
