Description
13" (33 cm.) Bisque socket head with faces on front and back which can be alternately revealed by turning the head; one face has blue glass inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, feathered brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with center accent line, unpierced ears; the other face has modeled closed eyelids as though sleeping, rose-blushed eye shadow to match cheek blush, painted lashes and brows, closed mouth with accent line between the lips. With kid poupee body having shapely torso, mitten hands, and wearing lovely antique brown silk plaid costume, undergarments, leather ankle boots, bonnet. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Leon Casimir Bru, circa 1868, the awake/asleep facial variation was shown in the illustration of his depose that was registered in that year. Value Points: the rarity of the early deposed model poupee is enhanced by its superb quality of bisque and painting.
