16" (41 cm.) Bisque socket head portraying a widely smiling child, narrow blue glass paperweight inset eyes in half-moon shape, fringed lashes, brush-stroked delicate brows, shaded nostrils of pronounced distinctive nose, closed mouth modeled as though open with beaming smile, shaded lips, auburn mohair wig, composition fully jointed body. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Van Rozen France Depose (raised lettering at back of head). Comments: the Belgian-born artist, Jeanne Van Rozen, sculptor of animals and soldiers, became involved in the French Renaissance of the Doll movement, circa 1915, introducing a few character models which were produced in extremely limited numbers. Value Points: rare model with historical importance, sculpted by renowned named artist, and having captivating expression enhanced by hand-pressed details of sculpting, wonderful antique mariner costume including sailor cap lettered "Lindbergh", and accessories including shoes signed * Paris, watch and fob, and metal whistle with figural design.
