12" (30 cm.) overall. 5" doll. Waist-up porcelain nude lady with grey sculpted hair sculpted in fly-away long locks (modeled away from her body), beneath a lavender wide-brimmed bonnet with upturned side, large purple bow and band, her arms held in unusual pose in front of bosom, attached to metal frame with silk overlay skirt designed for use as tea cozy. Excellent condition. Germany, circa 1910, depicting the French actress, Madame Mole Raymond of the late 18th century as she appeared in a famous portrait by Elisabeth Vigee-LeBrun which is presently in the Louvre in Paris. The doll is a very apt sculptural representation of the actress as depicted in the painting, the arms appearing to be posed for placement in a muff as shown in the painting, and with a rare sculpted hole behind the bonnet bow designed to hold a feather which is still present.
