14" (36 cm.) Polychromed terra cotta with head inclined to gaze downward, enamel eyes, bald pate with grey sculpted curls around sides of head and nape, very lush sculpted grey beard, grey brows and moustache, incised age lines, tow-wrapped posable armature body, painted yellow open-toe leggings with blue borders, wearing original lavish costume comprising old silk harem pants, burgundy silk jacket with silk-covered buttons and gold thread embroidery, twill golden long jacket with beaded embroidery and matching wide cuffs. Excellent condition. Neapolitan, mid-1700s, portraying Balthazar. King of Arabia, and bearer of myrrh in the traditional Magi scene.
