15" (38 cm.) Polychromed terra cotta head with ebony black complexion, finely-chiseled features, enamel eyes, black sculpted closely-cropped hair and brows, tow-wrapped posable armature body, carved wood lower arms and legs, painted brown boots with gold edging, blue stockings, wearing silk royal robes including pants, burgundy silk blouse with paillettes and colorful "jewels", gold-lined black silk cape with gold thread embroidery, elaborate pearl and bead bedecked turban. Excellent condition. Neapolitan, mid-1700s, portraying Melchior, King of Persia, bearer of gifts in the traditional Magi scene.
